Academician Shen Yinchu is an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and an expert in biochemical industry, and is known as 'the father of polyacrylamide' and 'the pioneer of China's biochemical industry'. He created the industrialisation technology of microbial catalytic production of acrylamide, set up the first set of industrialised device for the production of bulk chemical raw materials using biotechnology in China, and pioneered the application of biocatalysis in the chemical industry. In 2021, the National Functional Polymer Industry Committee conferred Academician Shen with the 'Lifetime Achievement Award for Outstanding Contributions to the Development of the National Functional Polymer Industry'.
